HFE letter
HFE

Just Tell Me
An HFE letter is HDB’s assessment of your eligibility to buy a flat, receive CPF housing grants and take an HDB housing loan.
Also called: HFE, HDB Flat Eligibility letter
Explain Like I’m Five
Before shopping for a flat, you need to understand which housing and financing options are open to your household. The HFE letter brings those assessments together, including any eligible grant and HDB loan amounts. It helps turn a vague housing budget into a clearer starting point.

How It Works
The process starts with a preliminary HFE check, followed by an application for the letter through the HDB Flat Portal. HDB assesses the household information and supporting documents you submit.
Where You’ll Run Into It
When preparing to apply for a BTO flat or buy a resale flat. Resale buyers need the letter before obtaining an Option to Purchase from a seller.
Example
“Let’s get our HFE letter before deciding which flats fit our plans.”
The buyers want to understand their assessed options before committing to a purchase.
The Part People Get Wrong
The preliminary check and the HFE letter are separate steps. An initial assessment is not the completed letter, and receiving the letter does not reserve a flat.
