Meet-the-People Session (MPS)

MPS

Just Tell Me

A Meet-the-People Session is a constituency session where residents seek help from their MP and team with personal difficulties or appeals.

Also called: MPS, Meet the People Session, Meet-the-People Sessions

Explain Like I’m Five

An MP is a Member of Parliament representing a constituency. An MPS gives residents a way to explain a difficulty and ask for help bringing it to the relevant organisation. Volunteer teams can help record the circumstances and prepare appeal letters.

How It Works

A resident explains the issue, and the team records the facts. An appeal may then be sent to the responsible ministry or agency for processing. That agency still considers the case through its own system.

Where You’ll Run Into It

In constituency information and Parliament’s MP directory, which lists session locations and times. Residents may discuss an MPS when facing a housing-related difficulty or needing help explaining an appeal.

The GRC page explains a team-based constituency. For a housing question, distinguish HDB from the town council responsible for shared estate property; the agency relevant to the issue still matters.

Example

“I’ll explain the housing issue at the Meet-the-People Session.”

The resident wants help putting the circumstances before the relevant agency, without assuming the session itself can approve a housing application.

The Part People Get Wrong

An MP’s appeal letter does not guarantee approval. It presents the case for consideration; the responsible agency still makes the decision through the applicable process.
