PSLE
Primary School Leaving Examination
Just Tell Me
PSLE is Singapore’s Primary School Leaving Examination, taken at the end of Primary 6 as a checkpoint before secondary school.
Also called: Primary School Leaving Examination
Explain Like I’m Five
PSLE is the national examination pupils sit at the end of Primary 6. It checks their understanding of key primary-school subjects and forms part of the move into secondary education.
Where You’ll Run Into It
Families discuss PSLE results, secondary-school choices and subject levels during a child’s final primary-school year. Schools and MOE publish the current procedures and timelines.
Later education conversations may turn to poly vs JC. For students liable for NS, enlistment is another milestone, followed eventually by ORD at the end of full-time service. PSLE itself remains the primary-school examination.
Example
“Her PSLE is this year, so the family is looking at secondary schools.”
The examination and school-selection period are approaching at the end of Primary 6.
Watch Out
Do not rely on old scoring tables or cut-offs. Education pathways and posting arrangements can change, so current decisions should use MOE’s latest information.
