ComCare
Just Tell Me
ComCare is Singapore’s social-assistance umbrella, providing financial help and social support to eligible individuals and families struggling with daily living expenses.
Explain Like I’m Five
ComCare brings together different kinds of support for people who cannot meet basic living needs. Temporary help and longer-term support serve different circumstances, so the name does not mean one standard payout for everyone.
Where You’ll Run Into It
In Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) information, at Social Service Offices, or in notices mentioning households receiving assistance. MSF’s ComCare page is the official starting point for the schemes and their requirements.
Short-to-Medium-Term Assistance provides temporary support, including for people looking for work or unable to work for a period. Long-Term Assistance supports people permanently unable to work because of age, illness or disability, with limited income and little or no family support. Interim Assistance addresses urgent, temporary financial needs.
Example
“The notice mentions ComCare and CHAS. Are they the same scheme?”
They cover different needs. CHAS subsidises covered healthcare at participating clinics; ComCare addresses basic living needs through assistance and social support.
The Part People Get Wrong
ComCare is not simply another round of CDC vouchers, which are issued for spending at participating merchants. The first-week guide introduces those vouchers alongside common payment names. Its schemes have their own requirements; the label alone does not establish someone’s entitlement or the help they receive.
