North–South Corridor (NSC)
NSC
Just Tell Me
The North–South Corridor is a transport project connecting northern Singapore with the city, combining an expressway with better streets for buses, walking and cycling.
Also called: NSC, North South Corridor
Explain Like I’m Five
Imagine moving some through-traffic into a tunnel so the streets above have more room for people and buses. That is part of the NSC plan, alongside an elevated expressway section. It serves places including Yishun, Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh on the way towards the city.
Where You’ll Run Into It
In roadwork notices, transport news and plans showing how neighbourhood streets will change. The project includes wider footpaths, cycling paths, bus priority and community spaces, so its effects reach beyond motorists.
For the transport authority, see LTA. ERP concerns road pricing, rather than the construction project.
Example
“The NSC plans show a cycling path near our neighbourhood too.”
A resident looking at the project discovers that the planned changes include journeys made without a car.
The Part People Get Wrong
The NSC is not an MRT line. It began as an expressway proposal but developed into a broader transport project. Plans describe what is being built; they do not mean every section is already open.
